Community Information

About West Hollywood

West Hollywood is a city in Los Angeles County that is informally known as WeHo. Incorporated in 1984, it has become a leader for equal rights in the LGBTQ Community. As of 2013, gay men accounted for 39 percent of the population. And a third of its residents identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender.

West Hollywood is also a popular vacation spot for gay and lesbian travelers with its nightlife and unsurpassable shopping. This energetic city offers wonderful hotels, restaurants and bars within walking distance. And it hosts many events like the Los Angeles Gay Pride and the West Hollywood Halloween Costume Carnival.

West Hollywood is considered the most walkable city in California by Walkscore and is bordered by Hollywood Hills, the Fairfax district, Beverly Grove, and Beverly Hills. This area is very dense and its compact urban features provide small lots for mixed land use. The commercial corridors include the Sunset Strip and Avenues of Art & Design.

West Hollywood has a variety of houses, condos, townhouses, and apartments in its residential neighborhoods that include the Norma Triangle, West Hollywood North, West Hollywood West, West Hollywood East, and West Hollywood Heights. Home prices range from the low 400’s to several million. Each neighborhood is only a few blocks long with intersecting streets providing many amenities. The Los Angeles Unified School District serves this city and includes several elementary schools like West Hollywood Elementary, Laurel Elementary, and Melrose Elementary. Most homes are zoned to Bancroft Middle School

West Hollywood is full of interesting history and was the place to go for casinos and night clubs in the 1920’s when gambling was illegal in the city of Los Angeles but not the county. Many movie industry members came to this area and built unique apartment buildings and hotels. Many furnishing showrooms and interior designers reflect periods going back to the middle of the century.
